A summer holiday in Salzburger Land
The Alpenrose holiday home is located at the entrance of the Hohe Tauern National Park - with the highest mountain in Austria the Grossglockner 3798m - and at the entrance to the European sports region Zell am See - Kaprun, in the heart of the Salzburger region, surrouned by numerous fantastic excursion destinations. The bathing lake Zeller See with its drinking water quality can be easily reached in just 5 minutes by car or 15 minutes by bike along a romantic bike path. The cycle path that leads around the lake leads past numerous beaches, which invite you to swim.
Half an hour away is Werfen, with Hohenwerfen Fortress. The impressive Hohenwerfen Castle is well-known from the film "Agenten sterben einsam" (Where Eagles Dare) and for its extraordinary bird of prey show. 'World of the Ice Giants' is also in Werfen, with the biggest ice cave system in the world. A good hour away is the Mozart city of Salzburg. World-renowned thanks to its beautiful Old Town area, Salzburg Festival and the Sound of Music.
You can be in Gasteinertal in an hour, with its famed thermal springs and healing caves. Also a mere hour away is Habachtal and its unique emerald deposits. Queen Elizabeth II is said to own a 42 carat emerald from Habachtal. As a tourist there is also the opportunity to look for emeralds – and if you make a good find, then your holiday will have been well worth it. For children especially hunting for emeralds is a rewarding experience. Equally popular with children of all ages is panning for gold in Raurisertal, a mere half hour away. All ages will have a lovely time in Ferleiten Wildlife and Adventure Park, also easily accessible within 30 minutes. All excursion destinations are also accessible by public transport – as opposed to having to drive – including bus, train and even in the nostalgic steam train.
